New construction – basement. Milton Keynes

The Problem

Temporary earth retention required.

The Solution

Slipform contractor PC Harrington required a quick and cost effective solution to the problem of retaining the side of an excavation adjacent an existing building. A particular requirement was the need to limit the width of the retention system because of close construction tolerances. Charterbuild provided a perfect solution by designing, supplying and installing a sheet pile wall, retained by 84 Duckbill MR1 anchors. Installed in horizontal layers as the bulk excavation was carried out, each anchor was proof loaded to ensure that it met the design loads, assuring demonstrable safety of the installation. Despite difficult site conditions, Charterbuild met a tight construction programme ensuring no delays to Harrington’s site progress.
