Royal Arsenal Site. Woolwich. London – Listed Building

The Problem

Missing sections of cornice detail and balustrade.

The Solution

Charterbuild prepared templates from the existing elements of the building and commissioned a specially made polystyrene mould which was fixed to shuttering on site. To provide a stone face, the mould was lined in situ with stone repair mix made from crushed stone prior to placing reinforcement and a concrete backing. The missing blocks of stonework above the cornice were re-created by placing concrete blockwork, faced with stone rendering scribed to imitate the original stonework. After completion, the new works were toned-in to camouflage the new work and blend in to the adjacent areas.
