Concrete support frames within electrical distribution centre

The Problem

Spalling and damaged concrete.

The Solution

Main contractor Manders called on the specialist experience of Charterbuild when failure of fixings created a potential problem with switchgear on EDF Energy’s HT distribution network. Rusting bolts had caused serious spalling of the concrete support structures, creating the possibility that the switchgear could fail to operate.

Charterbuild designed and manufactured a replacement steel support system for the failed fixings and undertook repair of the concrete structure. Speed of repair was critical to reduce the outage period of the equipment, and a rapid set pouring concrete by Tecroc was used.
