New Air-dome to cover tennis court. North London

The Problem

The new air structure required to be held down to ensure stability.

The Solution

Despite difficult ground conditions and complex access, Charterbuild were engaged to construct a 31 metre long reinforced strip foundation in conjunction with the supply and installation of 108 Duckbill MR3 stainless steel ground anchor assemblies. Taking care to protect the existing court surface, the anchors were precision-installed at specific angles using our own pneumatic rig fitted to an all-terrain forklift. The anchors were terminated with loop nuts to which the air structure hold down wires were connected. A unique feature of the design was the incorporation of a detail to ensure that, when the air dome is removed during the summer months, the anchor terminations can be left covered flush with the court surface.
